How to create an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement on Legislate.
The Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement (AST) is one of the most popular contracts that users can create on Legislate. An AST is an agreement between a Landlord and a Tenant to let an identified property for a specified period, at an agreed rate.
A very common contract in private residential lettings, our lawyer-reviewed ASTs are perfect for landlords and letting agents that specialise in both residential and student rentals.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to create your AST Agreements smoothly and efficiently on Legislate.
From the Legislate dashboard, select ‘Create Contract’.
You will see a selection of contracts available to create on Legislate. Select ‘Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement’.
Define the scope of your contract and fill in the contract terms. This is where you will enter information such as the rent amount, the type of AST (HMO, Sole Occupancy or Bedsit) and the property’s facilities.
Next, enter your own personal details and the details of the parties to the contract - whether that be yourself or your company, one tenant or a group of tenants.
This is also where you will be able to add additional collaborators to the contract. For example, if you require any witnesses or if you are a landlord who has engaged a Letting Agent, you can add as many people as you require.
Legislate solves the communication problem between landlord and tenant. Use the Activity tab to amend contract terms, communicate with tenants and keep up to date with the progress of your contract. You will be notified when your tenants have inputted their details and signed the contract here.
Sign! Your AST is now ready to be signed. You can sign your Legislate agreement by using your mouse or trackpad, alternatively you can upload an existing signature to the platform.
Finally, it is worth mentioning our useful FAQ tab. This can be used to assist you, or your tenants, and clear up some commonly identified landlord-tenant queries.
